Flow cup viscometers are suitable for determining the flow time of Newtonian / borderline Newtonian fluids according to international standards and are often used in laboratories and industrial production. For the measurement, the nozzle must be closed and the fluid to be measured must be poured into the flow cup. Placing the glass plate on top of the cup creates a vacuum that prevents the fluid from flowing and serves to position the cup on the tripod for timing. When the glass plate is then pulled away from the flow cup, the fluid flow from the nozzle starts and timing begins simultaneously. Once the flow stops, the timing must also stop. For a relative value, this method is absolutely sufficient in many fields. To ensure the accuracy of the cup, it is important to clean it thoroughly after each use. It is important to ensure that the surface inside the cup has not been damaged. Any scratches or dry material residues will affect further measurements.
