Digital Readout (DRO) digital indicators are linear scales that are mounted on the sliding axes of the lathe or milling machine. When using them, mechanical wear and "backlash" are no longer a problem, as they read the actual position. Additionally, there is no longer a need to read lines on the vernier and count the turns of the manual handwheel.
