Vibration meters are used for inspecting and maintaining machines by detecting increased vibration levels. In this way, maintenance can be scheduled at an appropriate time, reducing downtime and costs.

A machine showing signs of imbalance, insufficient alignment, or mechanical looseness causes low-frequency vibrations. These vibrations are more accurately recorded by evaluating their velocity. Conversely, high-frequency vibrations often indicate bearing faults and are more effectively identified through acceleration (g-force) measurement.

The choice between using a magnet or a needle in vibration meters depends on the application and the type of measurement being taken. Magnets are commonly used to attach the sensor to the machine being tested, especially when measuring high-frequency vibrations. This method provides a stable, secure attachment that can accurately record rapid oscillations without interference. Needle sensors, on the other hand, are more suitable for precision measurements in hard-to-reach spots.
