Flow cup viscometers are viscosity meters for determining the viscosity of liquids. Flow cups are often used in industry and research laboratories. Due to the nature of the measurement method, however, the determination is only performed on low-viscosity liquids, as the liquid cannot flow from the nozzles if the viscosities are too high. Therefore, viscosity measurements for liquids with Newtonian behavior provide the most accurate results in the flow cup. Viscosity can be determined based on the flow volume and the measured time it takes for the liquid to pass through the nozzle. The user starts timing when the liquid begins to flow at the lower end of the nozzle. It is stopped as soon as the flow is no longer uniform. After completing the measurement, it is imperative to clean the flow cup, as dried residues can distort the next measurement result. It should also be ensured that no pointed or sharp tools are used for cleaning. Scratches on the flow cup viscometer affect the result.
