Coating flexibility and adhesion test device according to ISO 1520
The PCE-CPT 20 is a surface coating flexibility test device used to check the forming, ductility, adhesion, and elongation of paints, varnishes, powders, and protective coatings on sheet metal and determines the coating's strength and elasticity.
A suction cup test, also known as the Erichsen test or indentation test, uses a spherical punch to deform a sample. This deformation results in a bulge resembling a cup. According to ISO 1520 standard, the sample must be placed with the coated side facing up so that the 20 mm spherical punch presses the uncoated underside of the metal sheet. The suction cup test ends when small cracks and/or detachments are observed in the bulged part of the sample. The clear display shows the bulge deformation distances that can be used to determine the coating flexibility rating.
