The UCI hardness tester PCE-3500 is designed for non-destructive hardness measurement of metal parts. The UCI process (Ultrasonic Contact Impedance) works as follows: the Vickers diamond at the tip of the probe is excited by its own resonance. Pressing the sensor, the vibration frequency decreases according to the hardness of the surface. The surface hardness can be determined based on the frequency shift, taking into account the characteristic curve of the material. Due to the non-destructive testing, this UCI hardness tester is especially suitable for materials that have undergone surface hardening, such as those hardened by nitriding or induction. It is commonly used for punching tools, presses, thin-walled parts, gears, turbine blades, camshafts, or weld seams.
The hardness tester features interchangeable probes with different pressure forces, thus covering a wide range of applications. After measuring the hardness of a component, the PCE-3500 additionally displays the MAX / MIN values, average value, and standard deviation and can present the results in a bar chart. Since the UCI hardness meter is equipped with internal memory, the data can be evaluated and analyzed via the software.
