Coating flexibility and adhesion tester according to ISO 1520
The PCE-CPT 20 is a surface coating flexibility tester, used to test the forming, ductility, adhesion and elongation of paints, varnishes, powders and protective coatings on sheet metal and determine coating strength and elasticity.
A cup test, also referred to as an Erichsen test or indentation test, uses a spherical punch to deform a sample. This deformation results in a cup-like bulge. According to ISO 1520, the specimen should be placed with the coated side up so that the 20 mm ball punch presses against the uncoated underside of the sheet metal. The suction cup test is terminated when small cracks and/or detachments are observed in the swollen portion of the sample. The easy-to-read display shows the swell-strain distances that can be used to determine the flexibility rating of the coating.
