Contact thermometers are used when high measurement accuracy or internal measurement of an object is required. They are divided into thermocouple thermometers, and RTD or PT100. Thermometers with type K thermocouples are the most widely used. Some instruments can be connected to more than one thermocouple for multiple simultaneous measurements. PT100 type thermometers offer greater accuracy but less range.
