Stroboscopes

A stroboscope is used for accurate measurement of the rotational speed and frequency of rotating components and equipment.

The flash frequency of a stroboscope is adjustable to ensure accurate measurement. A stroboscope is an easy-to-use tool, as it can be used to quickly locate and replace worn belts, springs, valves, and dampers. A stroboscope can also be used to set up machines to improve their performance. Many stroboscopes have rechargeable batteries, making them truly portable and ideal for use in production. Some models have high-intensity light sources of 600 to 900 lux at a distance of 1 meter. Depending on the model, there is also the option to record and store data in internal memory or an SD memory card. Finally, there is also the option to transfer measurement data to a computer for detailed analysis and printing.

A key factor when selecting an electronic stroboscope is the type of light source used by the stroboscope. Modern stroboscopes (LED) differ significantly from conventional Xenon lamps and allow full illumination of an object. For certain non-destructive testing applications, special stroboscopes using ultraviolet (UV) LED may be required.

In the case of handheld stroboscopes, the determining factor is how the power supply is provided. Here it is very important how often the stroboscope is used. If the handheld stroboscope is used sporadically, battery power is often sufficient. If the portable stroboscope is used frequently, an instrument with an integrated rechargeable lithium battery is recommended.

Fixed-installation stroboscopes are generally supplied with an AC transformer or are powered directly from the mains. When purchasing a stroboscope, you should also consider the ingress protection (IP) rating required for the application. The IP rating or class determines whether a device is dust-resistant or waterproof. If a stroboscope will be used in harsh industrial conditions, an IP67 rating is recommended for optimal protection against external environmental influences.
