Metal drills are cutting tools designed to produce accurate holes in steel, stainless, aluminum and alloys, with controlled chip evacuation and stable point geometry. They are used on hand drills, drill presses and machine tools for production and maintenance work.
Available options include HSS, cobalt, center drills, step drills and taper shank drills, in multiple diameters, lengths and shank styles (straight or taper), with coated versions for higher heat and wear resistance, from Yg, Hepyc & Precitools.
Choose the drill based on material, cutting speed and coolant use to improve tool life and hole quality while minimizing burrs.
Drills
The metal drill bits are cutting tools designed for drilling holes in a wide range of materials, from plain structural steel to hardened alloys and stainless steel. Their performance depends on the material of manufacture, the cutting edge angle and the coating they have.
- Main Material Categories:HSS (High Speed Steel): Suitable for plain steel and soft metals. They are distinguished into HSS-R (rolled), HSS-G (ground for higher accuracy).HSS-Co (Cobalt): Contain 5% or 8% cobalt. They are highly resistant to high temperatures and ideal for stainless steel (Inox).Carbide (Solid Carbide): Top hardness for industrial use in CNC, allowing very high cutting speeds.
- Tip Geometry: Most metal drill bits have an angle of 118° for general use or 135° (Split Point) for self-centering without the need for center punching.
- Coatings: Layers such as TiN (Titanium Nitride - gold color) are used to reduce friction, or TiAlN for maximum thermal resistance.
