The PCE-DRW 1 is a handheld digital refractometer for the sugar content and specific gravity of beer and similar liquids. It measures 0 ... 50 % Brix and 1.000 ... 1.130 d 20⁄20 and also shows temperature. Automatic temperature compensation (ATC) covers +10 ... +40 °C / +50 ... +104 °F. The ABS housing is IP65 rated against water and dust, and the large LCD shows the reading and the temperature together.

Brewers use it to read original gravity, gravity during fermentation and final gravity. These values are used to calculate alcohol and sugar content.
