Tap chucks hold the tap in the machine and transmit torque through its square drive, so the thread is cut in line with the hole. Proper clamping and axial compensation reduce the forces on the thread flanks, improve thread quality and protect the tap from breakage.

This collection covers tap holding systems from Kemmler, YG-1 and Vertex:

  • Synchro tapping chucks with ER collets (BT and SK) with minimal Z-axis compensation (Kemmler: 0.5 mm), for CNC machining centres with synchronised (rigid) tapping — ER16 to ER40, taps M2–M33.
  • Holders with TC quick-change coupling (BT, SK and HSK), with or without length compensation, sizes 19 / 31 / 48 for taps M3–M36.
  • Morse taper MT2–MT4 holders (Vertex) for TC-312, TC-820 and TC-1433 tap collets, M2–M36.
  • ER tap collets with square drive (Vertex, and Kemmler with 15 μm runout, plus a Sealed version for through-coolant up to 21 bar), ER16–ER40.
  • Quick-change tap adaptors (tap collets) for DIN371 and DIN376 shanks, with or without safety clutch.

How to choose

  1. Machine interface: BT, SK or HSK for CNC machining centres and mills, Morse taper for pillar drills and conventional machines.
  2. Tapping method: on a CNC with a synchronised spindle a synchro chuck with micro-compensation is enough; machines without synchronisation need a chuck with length (tension/compression) compensation.
  3. Tap shank: choose the collet or adaptor whose shank diameter and square match your tap (DIN371 or DIN376). A safety clutch slips under excessive torque and protects small taps.
