The PCE-GM 55 is a 3-angle gloss meter with measuring angles of 20°, 45° and 75°, covering the medium and high gloss ranges. The 75° angle also allows gloss measurement on paper and textiles. The measuring range is 0 ... 200 gloss units. The meter is based on the ASTM, DIN and EN ISO standards.

Gloss is measured from the light reflected by the surface. The value is measured continuously and shown on the LC display. Measured values can be transferred to a PC via the integrated interface. Power comes from a Li-ion battery, charged from a 5V power supply.

Gloss Meter

Gloss meters (gloss meters) are precision instruments used to measure the optical gloss of a surface. Their operation is based on directing a beam of light at a specific angle and measuring the amount of reflected light, accurately determining how “glossy” or “matte” a surface appears.

  • Measurement Angles: They feature standardized angles 20° (high gloss), 60° (medium) and 85° (matte), according to the ISO 2813 standard.
  • Applications: They are used in the paints, plastics, automotive, and furniture industries to ensure finish uniformity.
