Infrared laser thermometers measure surface temperature without contact by detecting the infrared radiation emitted by an object. They are ideal for fast checks on moving parts, hot targets, or hard-to-reach areas, without disturbing the process.

Available in different temperature ranges, accuracy classes and distance-to-spot (D:S) ratios, with adjustable emissivity, laser targeting, backlit display and MIN/MAX or HOLD functions. Options from PCE Instruments & Insize.

Used in maintenance, HVAC, electrical inspections and quality control; choose based on D:S and the target surface material/finish.

Infrared Thermometers

The infrared thermometers, also known as laser thermometers, allow measuring the temperature of a surface from a distance, without physical contact. They operate by detecting the infrared radiation emitted by any object and converting it into a digital temperature reading in fractions of a second.

  • Optical Ratio (D:S): A critical feature is the distance-to-spot ratio (e.g. 12:1). This means that at a distance of 12 centimeters, the instrument measures a circular area with a diameter of 1 centimeter.
  • Emissivity Coefficient (Emissivity): Accuracy depends on the material’s ability to emit energy. Advanced models allow adjustment of the coefficient $\epsilon$ for correct measurements on metals, plastics, or organic materials.
  • Applications:Industry: Checking hot spots in electrical panels, motors, and bearings.Food: Temperature monitoring in refrigerators or production lines without risk of contamination.HVAC: Detecting heat loss in piping and insulation.
