The PCE-DRS 1 is a handheld digital refractometer for sodium chloride (NaCl). It measures the salinity or salt content (%, ‰), specific gravity (SG) and refractive index (nD) of liquids. It is waterproof to IP65 and has automatic temperature compensation (ATC) from +10 ... +40 °C / +50 ... +104 °F. A large LCD shows the measured value and the temperature.

Typical uses are seawater, aquariums and swimming pools. In food production it checks salt content against limits in soups, brines, marinated vegetables, pickles, sauces, cheeses and bacon. It also suits environmental monitoring of salinity in seas, lakes and soil.
