Light Meters

The light meters (or lux meters) are precision instruments used to measure the light intensity (brightness) on a surface. They operate via a photocell (usually silicon) that converts light energy into an electrical signal, allowing the assessment of light adequacy in various environments.

  • Units of Measurement: Measurement is usually in Lux (lx) or Foot-candles (fc).
  • Cosine Correction: Quality light meters have a special filter to correct the angle of incidence of light (cosine correction), ensuring accuracy even when light comes in at an angle.
  • Applications: * Workplaces: Compliance checks with health and safety regulations.Photography/Cinema: Lighting adjustment for a perfect shot.Agriculture: Measuring light in greenhouses to optimize plant growth.
  • Features: Many models offer Data Hold function, maximum/minimum value recording, and automatic range switching (Auto-range).
