The MTJNR lathe toolholder accepts specific inserts, also known as "TNMG" carbide inserts. TNMG inserts have a triangular shape with a 60-degree angle. They are typically used for general machining and very often for roughing. The "T" in TNMG indicates the shape of the insert which is a 60-degree triangle. The "N" for "Negative" indicates the side clearance angle of the insert and signifies that the toolholder is negative cutting. Therefore, the insert has 6 cutting edges, 3 on each side (as it can be placed upside down). These inserts are available in various sizes, with different cutting radii and various coatings depending on the material to be machined.
