The PCE-EMF 40 is a handheld gauss meter for low-frequency magnetic fields, low-frequency electric fields and high-frequency electromagnetic fields. It measures magnetic fields up to 2000 mG on three axes (X, Y and Z) and determines electric field strength on supply lines at 50/60 Hz. In the high-frequency range it measures sources such as WLAN routers and mobile phones.

All three measurement modes are read at the same time on the 2.4'' TFT display, so no switching is needed. Besides the numerical reading, the meter shows a graph of the last 20 values and a bar graph in three traffic-light colours. When the reading reaches the red area, an acoustic alarm sounds and switches off again below the limit.
