The PCE-TUM 20 is a portable handheld turbidity meter for water quality analysis. It measures turbidity in NTU (Nephelometric Turbidity Units) over two ranges, 0 ... 50 NTU and 50 ... 1000 NTU, which switch automatically for increased accuracy. The included 0 NTU and 100 NTU calibration references allow the meter to be adjusted at any time.
The light source is an infrared LED with a wavelength of 850 nm. For the lower range, a photodiode set at 90° to the beam reads the light scattered by the particles in the sample (nephelometric or diffused light method). For the upper range, a second photodiode on the opposite side measures the transmitted light.
