The PCE-1000N is a portable, battery-powered digital Barcol impressor hardness tester. It measures the hardness of pure aluminium, soft aluminium, thick aluminium alloy and aluminium sheets, strips, rods, castings and forgings. It also tests fibre-reinforced (FRP) and glass-reinforced (GRP) plastics, hard plastics and soft metals such as copper or lead.

Readings appear directly on the backlit LCD in Barcol (HBA), Brinell (HB), Vickers (HV), Webster (HW) and Rockwell (HRB / HRE / HRF / HRH) units. Maximum and average value functions and power-saving automatic shutdown are included. The tester meets ASTM E140-97 (hardness conversion tables for metals), D2583-75 (indentation hardness of plastics by Barcol impressor) and B648-78 (indentation hardness of aluminium alloys).
