  • -50 to +1150 °C range
  • 250 ms response time
  • Non-contact infrared measurement
  • USB real-time PC logging
  • 50:1 measurement spot
  • Alarm function

The PCE-890U is a non-contact infrared thermometer for surface temperatures from -50 to +1150 °C / 2102 °F. Non-contact measurement reaches hard-to-access objects, electrical equipment, extremely hot surfaces and moving parts. Response time is 250 ms, with readings on the LC display.

The USB interface and supplied software allow a real-time mode, so measurements can be recorded on a PC. An alarm function is included. Typical uses are fire protection, road construction, marine work and the oil industry.

Infrared Thermometers

The infrared thermometers, also known as laser thermometers, allow measuring the temperature of a surface from a distance, without physical contact. They operate by detecting the infrared radiation emitted by any object and converting it into a digital temperature reading in fractions of a second.

  • Optical Ratio (D:S): A critical feature is the distance-to-spot ratio (e.g. 12:1). This means that at a distance of 12 centimeters, the instrument measures a circular area with a diameter of 1 centimeter.
  • Emissivity Coefficient (Emissivity): Accuracy depends on the material’s ability to emit energy. Advanced models allow adjustment of the coefficient $\epsilon$ for correct measurements on metals, plastics, or organic materials.
  • Applications:Industry: Checking hot spots in electrical panels, motors, and bearings.Food: Temperature monitoring in refrigerators or production lines without risk of contamination.HVAC: Detecting heat loss in piping and insulation.
