The Caliper scriber is used for scribing or transferring measurements onto a workpiece. It combines the functions of a Caliper and a scriber in one tool. It consists of two jaws, one of which has a sharp tip used for scribing, while the other usually has a marked measuring scale. The user can adjust the distance between the jaws to match a specific measurement. Once the desired measurement is set, the scriber jaw is placed on the workpiece and the user can mark a line by pressing the tip onto the surface.
