The UCI PCE-3500 hardness tester is designed for the non-destructive measurement of the hardness of metal parts. The UCI (Ultrasonic Contact Impedance) process works as follows: the Vickers diamond at the tip of the probe is excited by its self-resonance. By pressing the sensor, the frequency of vibrations is reduced according to the hardness of the surface. The surface hardness can be determined based on the frequency shift, taking into account the characteristic curve of the material. Due to the non-destructive testing, this UCI hardness tester is particularly suitable for materials that have undergone surface hardening, such as those hardened by nitriding or induction. Commonly used for punching tools, presses, thin-walled components, gears, turbine blades, camshafts or weld seams.
The durometer has interchangeable probes with different pressure forces, thus covering a wide range of applications. After measuring the hardness of a part, the PCE-3500 additionally displays the MAX / MIN values, average value and standard deviation, and can render the results in a bar graph. Since the UCI hardness meter is equipped with an internal memory, the data can be evaluated and analyzed through the software.
