White grinding wheels consist of 99% aluminum oxide. The grains of a white wheel break very quickly, as those with worn cutting edges are replaced by fresh ones with sharp cutting edges. Due to their brittle nature, these wheels will lose their shape very quickly and should be dressed with a diamond frequently to prevent this.
