White grinding wheels consist of 99% aluminum oxide. The grains of a white wheel break very quickly, as those with worn cutting edges are replaced by fresh ones with sharp cutting edges. Due to their brittle nature, these wheels will lose their shape very quickly and dressing with a diamond should be done often to prevent this.
