The PCE-ATP 1 is an ATP meter (luminometer) that tests surface hygiene. It detects adenosine triphosphate (ATP) from bacterial or microbial residue to check cleaning, sterilisation and sanitisation. Take a sample with a PCE-ATP SWAB (sold separately). Push the swab fully into the tube so it touches the reaction liquid and reagent, shake gently and insert the tube into the measuring chamber. After 20 seconds the display shows the result in relative light units (RLU).
The meter counts photons from the reaction of ATP with luciferase-luciferin. The result is proportional to the ATP level, so higher readings mean more contamination. Its design minimises the influence of disinfectants. Typical uses include breweries, beverages, fish, meat and poultry, fruit and vegetables, catering and baby food. It also checks water, liquids, pipes and tanks, and documents cleanliness before production starts.
