[H] - HARDENED MATERIALS (HARDENED MATERIALS)
Metallic materials based on iron (Fe) can undergo heat treatments that significantly increase their mechanical properties and hardness. As hardness and mechanical properties increase, the machinability of these materials is significantly reduced.
H 38-39 - Hardened Steel
- Machinability:
- Burrs: Hard and brittle
- Tool wear: Very high
- Type of cutting: Very low speeds, low feed
- Surface quality: Moderate to good
- Lubricants: Fully synthetic oils
- Cutting tools: Special cutting tools for hardened materials.
H 40-41 - Hardened Cast Iron
- Machinability:
- Burrs: Hard, brittle and short
- Tool wear: Very high
- Type of cutting: Very low speeds, low feed
- Surface quality: Moderate to good
- Lubricants: Fully synthetic oils, minimum lubrication to reduce vibrations
- Cutting tools: Special cutting tools for hardened materials.
