[S] - SUPER ALLOYS (SUPER ALLOYS)
Super alloys are metallic alloys designed to maintain high strength, durability, and stability under extreme temperatures and corrosive conditions. They are classified into:
S 31-32 - Heat-Resistant Super Alloys - Iron (Fe)
- Properties:
- Designed with an iron base, reinforced with nickel, cobalt, and other elements to improve resistance to heat, oxidation, and corrosion. Although they have lower high-temperature strength compared to nickel super alloys, they are distinguished by high mechanical strength
- Machinability:
- Burrs: Hard and sticky
- Tool wear: Very high
- Cutting type: Very low speeds, low feed
- Surface quality: Low, requires finishing
- Lubricants: High-pressure oil
S 33-35 - Heat-Resistant Super Alloys - Nickel (Ni)
- Properties:
- They have excellent resistance to heat and oxidation, making them ideal for aircraft turbines, nuclear reactors, and steam turbine superheaters. Examples: Inconel
- Machinability:
- Burrs: Hard, long, and sticky
- Tool wear: Very high
- Cutting type: Low speeds, low feed
- Surface quality: They tend to work-harden, so it is difficult to achieve a good surface finish
- Lubricants: Intensive cooling
S 33-35 - Heat-Resistant Super Alloys - Cobalt (Co)
- Properties:
- They are characterized by excellent resistance to wear, fatigue, and corrosion, especially at high temperatures. They are used in medical implants, aerospace applications, and high-strength cutting tools.
- Machinability:
- Burrs: Hard, irregular, and sticky
- Tool wear: Very high
- Cutting type: Low speeds, low feed
- Surface quality: They tend to work-harden, so it is difficult to achieve a good surface finish
- Lubricants: Intensive cooling
S 36-37 - Titanium Alloys
- Properties:
- They are lighter than other super alloys, but with high strength and corrosion resistance. They are used in aerospace and biomedical applications due to their excellent biocompatibility.
- Machinability:
- Burrs: Long, difficult to manage
- Tool wear: Very high
- Cutting type: Very low speeds, moderate feed
- Surface quality: Moderate
- Lubricants: Strong oil cooling
